LEARNING OBJECTIVE:

KODAI LAKE: Created in 1863, the unique feature of the manmade Kodai Lake is its star-like shape. The green meadows surrounding its crystal blue waters make for a beautiful sight. You can enjoy a family picnic on the banks or opt for a thrilling boat ride

BRYANT PARK: Kodaikanal Lake's eastern side, Bryant Park is one of the most colorful attractions of Kodaikanal. Sprawling in an expanse of 20.5 acres, this park was established by H. D. Bryant (a forest officer from Madurai) in the year 1908. Boasting of over 325 species of trees, cactuses, and shrubs, this park appears like a gorgeous rainbow when all its flowers bloom.

COAKER’S WALK: It is a narrow pedestrian path, constructed by Lt. Coaker in 1872, a one-kilometer mountain road which runs along the edge of steep slopes on the southern side of Kodai road which is 1/2km away from Kodai. The walk winding around Mt. Nebo starts near van Allen hospital and joins the main road above St. Peter's Church provides a wide-angle spectacular view of the plains.

TELESCOPE HOUSE: At the northern tip of the Coaker's Walk is a Telescope House which was developed for the benefit of the tourists. The Kodaikanal Terrestrial Telescope is capable of covering a wide panorama including Sothupparai Dam, Vaigai Dam, Periyakulam and Varaha river

Arrival and visit SHENBAGANUR MUSEUMis maintained by the Sacred Heart College – Theological Seminary founded in 1895. It is devoted to archaeological remains and the flora and fauna of the hills. One of the best orchidariums in the country, with more than 300 species of orchids, is also housed here. A Spanish Father Ugarte contributed his major collections to the Museum.

Proceed to PILLAR ROCKS

Arrival and visit PILLAR ROCKS-Pillar Rocks, located at a distance of 8 km from the lake tower, is one of the famous tourist attractions. At this attraction, tourists can see three granite boulders that are standing vertically shoulder to shoulder. Measuring a height of around 400 ft. from the ground, these pillars are known for offering bird's eye view of the surrounding beautiful vistas. The chambers that are between the two pillars are also known as Devil's Kitchen.

Arrival and visit GREEN VALLEY VIEW-Green valley view is just 5.5 kilometers (3.4 mi)away from the Kodaikanal bus-stand very close to the golf course, having an excellent panoramic view of the plains and a sheer drop of 1,500 meters (4,900 ft) down, overlooking the Vaigai Dam towards the south. The flight of steps proceeding to it is extremely commercialized.

Arrival and visit SILVER CASCADE FALLS-In the year 1863 Madurai's British Collector Sir Vere Henry Levinge dammed waters of three streams to construct an artificial lake which is the present lake in Kodaikanal. The excess water collected here is channeled through a stream which creates the silver cascade waterfall.
