VISION & MISSION:
ASSOCIATED PROJECTS:
MIDDLE SCHOOL: How has the trip enhanced the importance of wildlife conservation in the context to the current crisis of deforestation and global warming?
HIGH SCHOOL: The Chinese fishing nets are fast disappearing from the Cochin coastline., what do you think are the main causes of it from your observation from the trip to cochin coastline? what solutions can be suggested to retain this cultural symbol of Kerala?
LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
THE COCHIN SHIPYARD: The Cochin Shipyard Limited is one of the best performing public sector companies in India. Set up in 1976 in the heart of the city, the company hit its first major milestone in a matter of four years, when it built Rani Padmini, a giant oil tanker in January 1980. This shipyard is known for building the largest ships in the country.
JEWISH SYNAGOGUE: The Paradise Synagogue is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. One can study the practices and rituals of the Jewish religion. It has the scrolls of the law, crowns, copper plates and lot of other unique items, received as gifts. Belgian Glass Chandeliers, the brass railed pulpit and a host of other unique crafts antiques are on display. The synagogue is a blend of different styles of art and architecture.
DUTCH PALACE: The Palace was gifted by the Portuguese to the King of Cochin but later the Dutch carried out some renovations and extensions and so it is called the Dutch palace. Currently, it is a portrait gallery of mythological murals of the Hindu temple art. It is constructed in traditional style with a European influence. The deity of the royal family, 'PazhayannurBhagavathi' (the Goddess of Pazhayannur) is placed in the central courtyard.
CHINESE FISHING NETS: The huge cantilevered Chinese fishing nets that droop towards the water like over-sized hammocks have become a hallmark that represents Fort Kochi. They are fixed land installations, which are used for a very unique and unusual method of fishing.
HILL PALACE MUSEUM: The Hill Palace is Kerala`s first heritage museum for royal collections. The history of India under the local rulers and the British Raj can be studied through Oil paintings, murals; sculptures in stone, manuscripts, stone inscriptions, weapons, and the royal throne are on display. One can see oil-paintings, murals, sculptures, manuscripts and belongings of the Kochi royal family. Antique ceramics from the Far East, Kudakkallu (tombstone), Thoppikkallu (hood stone), laterite memorials and wooden memorials from ancient civilizations like the Indus Valley and Harappa can also be found here. It even has a gallery housing contemporary art. It is our pride to have relics of such value and significance placed here.
TEA ESTATES: Explore & study the varieties of tea plantations & how they are nurtured and cared. Munnar Tea Estates became famous from the time the Duke of Wellington recognized the place as ideal for tea plantation. Today there are more than 50 Estates in Munnar. The lush green tea plants and cold weather attracts tourists all around the year.
MATTUPETTY DAM: Study the effective uses of water. Water stored in the dam is the source for production of electricity, it also is the reason for the habitation of wild animals and birds in its surroundings, the dam creates an attraction to tourists and many small and big tourism related industries have developed in this place thus helping the local population as well.
ERAVIKULAM NATIONAL PARK: It is a beautiful place located at the crest of the Anamalai ranges. The Nilgiri Tahr in Eravikulam is the rare breed of mountain goat that you will find only here.
