LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

KUFRI: Study the natural beauty of the place.  Kufri is a tiny hill station located near Shimla. It is famous for its trekking and hiking trails. Adventure-seeking travelers throng Kufri in winters to enjoy skiing and tobogganing along its snow-covered slopes. 

ROHTANG PASS: Study about the important role it plays. The pass provides a natural divide between the Kullu Valley with a primarily Hindu culture (in the south), and the arid high-altitude Lahaul and Spiti valleys with a Buddhist culture. 

MANALI: Study the flora and fauna that are found in this region. The different kinds of Adventure activities, Skiing, Trekking, Paragliding, Rafting, Camping, and Jeep Safari, mountaineering that are possible due to the snow fall. The first Apple orchard in India was planted here by the British. It is a beautiful location for echo tourism, the snow clad mountains, the pine trees, the swirling roads, the wild flowers all add to the beauty of the place.

TIBETAN MONASTERY: Along with the hills and rivers, Manali is also famous for its Tibetan Monasteries as many people from Tibetan origin have settled here. The two prominent monasteries that attract a large number of tourists from all across the world are Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa and Himalayan Nyingamapa Gomp.

Proceed to ROHTANG PASS: Rohtang Pass is a very beautiful and popular spot in Manali. At an elevation of 13,054 ft, Rohtang Pass serves as the gateway to Lahaul and Spiti valleys in Himachal Pradesh. About 53 km from Manali, it connects Kullu valley with Lahaul and Spiti which in turn provide access to Leh. Besides Lahaul and Spiti, Rohtang Pass also serves as the gateway to Pangi and the valley of Leh.

Visit:

  • MANU TEMPLE- this magnificent temple is dedicated to the sage manu, who is said to be the creator of the world and the writer of manusmriti. The manu temple is located in old manali, at a distance of three kilometres from the main market.
  • HIDIMBA TEMPLE-halima temple, which was constructed in the 16th century, is one of the best places to visit in manali and is located amid a beautiful deodar forest on top of a hill in manali.
  • VASHIST HOT SPRING-vashisht was named after rishi vashisht one of the seven sages of hindu religion. Legend has it that the saddened rishi vashisht after learning that his children were killed by vishwamitra tried to commit suicide. But the river refused to kill him.
  • TIBETAN MONASTERY-along with the hills and rivers, manali is also famous for its tibetan monasteries as many people from tibetan origin have settled here.
