A four-day experiential field study exploring the Harappan Civilisation through the archaeological landscapes of Rakhigarhi and Banawali. Students investigate ancient settlements, urban planning, craftsmanship and agriculture, connecting physical evidence with historical interpretation while experiencing the culture and landscape of Haryana.

A field journey into the Harappan world, where archaeological landscapes, settlement remains, pottery, seals, drainage systems, agriculture and craftsmanship become the fragments through which students reconstruct the story of an ancient civilisation.
DAY 01: BENGALURU → DELHI → HISAR
ENTERING THE WORLD OF THE HARAPPANS
“Every civilisation begins with a story. Archaeology begins by asking how we know that story.”
Early Morning – Departure from Bengaluru for Delhi
The journey begins as students leave the familiar and travel towards one of India's important archaeological regions.
On Arrival – Delhi Airport → Hisar
“As the city fades behind us, the landscape becomes the first page of the story.”
The group proceeds by air-conditioned coach towards Hisar.
Meal: Lunch en route.
Afternoon – Arrival & Check-in at Hisar
Evening – Orientation on the Harappan Civilisation
“Before we interpret the ruins, we first learn to see the clues.”
The orientation introduces the historical timeline of the Indus Valley Civilisation, its settlements, archaeological discoveries and the places that students will encounter during the field study.
The questions introduced here will accompany the journey:
How did these cities function?
How were they organised?
What can objects and structures tell us about the people who created them?

Students explore the archaeological landscape of Rakhigarhi, encountering the remains associated with Harappan settlement life.
Town planning, residential structures, drainage systems, pottery, seals, beads and craft traditions reveal different dimensions of a society that had developed sophisticated systems of urban living.
The original programme specifically identifies Rakhigarhi as an important Harappan archaeological site and includes exploration of these settlement features.

A drain hints at systems of sanitation.

Students explore the archaeological remains of Banawali and encounter evidence connected with settlement planning, fortification, agriculture, pottery and craftsmanship.
The original programme places these elements at the centre of the Banawali visit.

The story now moves from one settlement to another.

The observations from Rakhigarhi and Banawali come together to create a broader picture of Harappan settlement development.

CHECK IN/OUT POLICY:
Standard check in and checkout time of most of the hotels are 12:00 noon. Early check in and late checkout will be subject to availability. We will try to give as many rooms as possible for early check in or late checkout but we don’t promise to give all the rooms for the same. For guaranteed early check in or late checkout, the hotel(s) should be booked at the time of package booking by paying additional amount charged by the hotel.
